Arrest made after deadly crash involving impaired driver, police say

The crash was reported just before 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

HOUSTON — A man was arrested after a deadly crash on the Katy Freeway at Gessner Road Saturday.

It happened just before 4 a.m. A man, 40, was putting gas in his car on the right shoulder when he was hit by a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, police said.

According to HPD, the man driving a Chrysler 300 ran out of gas and called for a ride-share driver to pick him up. The ride-share driver took him to get gas and brought him back to his vehicle. That's when police said the driver of the Tundra, Marco Antonio Juarez, 21, hit the man. The impact pushed the man forward and caused him to hit the back of the Camry parked in front of the Chrysler 300.

Officials said Juarez was at the scene and taken into custody after showing signs of impairment. He is charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The driver of the Camry was not injured.
