Alvin ISD elementary school staff member charged, accused of having an improper relationship with a student

Chason Bailey, former staff member at EC Mason Elementary, is charged with indecency with a child and an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

MANVEL, Texas — An Alvin Independent School District teacher was arrested and charged for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to a statement sent to families.

Chason Bailey was booked into the Brazoria County Jail and charged with indecency with a child and an improper relationship between an educator and a student. Both charges are felonies.

In a letter sent to Alvin ISD families, the district said they were made aware of an allegation indicating that an EC Mason Elementary staff member engaged in inappropriate behavior with a student.

Because this was an active investigation between law enforcement and the Brazoria County District Attorney's Office, the district was just recently able to share information with families.

The district said that once they were made aware of the allegations, Bailey was immediately removed from the campus and a formal investigation was initiated.

The parents of the student involved were contacted by the district staff and made aware of the investigation, according to Alvin ISD.

Alvin ISD said shortly after the investigation began, Bailey resigned.

The Alvin ISD Police Department finished their investigation and gave their findings to the Brazoria County District Attorney.

A Brazoria County Grand Jury indicted Bailey on two felony offenses.

"We are extremely angry that a staff member in our district would violate the trust placed in them by our community.  These behaviors are entirely inconsistent with the beliefs of our organization. Parents place a great deal of trust in our district and we will do all that we can to ensure that this type of activity does not occur in the future," the district said in the statement.

Bailey is being held on a $200,000 bond.
