Father, 2 sons arrested in deadly ambush of Dominican Republic leader's son in Houston, court records say

Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, 34, was killed and another man was critically injured on April 1 when gunmen surrounded their SUV on S. Wayside and opened fire.

HOUSTON — Three men have been arrested in connection with the deadly ambush of a man last month at a gas station in the Gulfgate area, according to court documents.

Hernan Torres, Sr. 50, Hernan Torres Jr., 25, and Hernando Torres, 19, are charged with murder, court records say.

Hernan Jr. and Hernando Torres were arrested Monday night by the HPD South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team along with agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Marshals, Houston police said.

Hernan Sr. is in custody in Philadelphia, Pa. on unrelated charges. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Harris County.

The victim, identified as Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, 34, was the son of Alfredo Pacheco, who is president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic.

A 29-year-old man, whose name hasn't been released, was also critically wounded in what homicide detectives are calling a "targeted" attack.

The deadly ambush happened shortly after 7 p.m. on April 1 at the Star Stop convenience store on South Wayside Drive near Telephone Road and the Gulf Freeway.

The day after, police released surveillance photos of the three gunmen who they said opened fire on a Cadillac Escalade with the victims and two other men inside.

They pulled up in a gray four-door Dodge Charger and a gray four-door Mercedes sedan, surrounded the SUV and started shooting, police said.

"This was extremely violent. It was well orchestrated, it was planned and these are some very dangerous individuals," Andy Kahan, with Crime Stoppers Houston, told us.

Pacheco Rojas tried to run back inside the store and was shot multiple times in the back. Police said he was also armed but it's not clear if he returned fire.

The other two men in the SUV weren't hurt.

There appeared to be more than two dozen bullet holes in the SUV's front windshield. Bullets also shattered the front of the store and left holes in a window and a wall. An employee told KHOU 11 News that he feels lucky he wasn't hit.

There is surveillance video of the shooting. We were there when HPD looked at it inside the store on April 3 but they were not releasing it to the media.
