Man stabbed himself before being shot, killed by deputies in NW Harris Co., sheriff says

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a man was on the street blocking traffic while he stabbed himself with a knife.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man was shot and killed by deputies Wednesday evening, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

It happened on Palston Bend Lane near T C Jester Boulevard and Cypress Creek Parkway around 7:15 p.m.

Gonzalez said a man was on the street blocking traffic, covered in blood carrying a large cross and a knife. It is believed that he was stabbing himself.

Deputies tried to get the man to drop the knife but he refused. The deputies also tried non-lethal force, but that also didn't work, the sheriff said.

According to Gonzalez, deputies discharged their weapons and struck the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gonzalez said the man was believed to have had numerous interactions with deputies before Wednesday's incident.

No deputies were injured, according to Gonzalez.
