Houston-area contractor couple accused of spending clients' money at casinos

Aleck and Andrea Miller, of Katy, own AM2 Construction and are accused of stealing nearly $200,000 from clients in Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress and Friendswood.

HOUSTON — A Katy couple, who work as contractors, were arrested and accused of taking money from clients all over the Houston area but never actually finishing their home renovation projects.

According to court records, Aleck and Andrea Miller, who own AM2 Construction, spent more than $1.5 million at casinos after they were hired for the projects.

At least eight clients, including two elderly couples, have come forward with similar stories. The victims, who live in Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress and Friendswood, said they lost nearly $200,000 total to the Millers, according to prosecutors.

According to charging documents, clients hired the couple for home renovation projects, like installing backyard patios and outdoor kitchens.

Prosecutors said Miller would require thousands of dollars in down payments and sometimes ask for more money for materials. The victims said he'd blame delays on things like medical emergencies, including a heart attack, and then the couple would ghost them.

They found evidence that Aleck Miller spent over $1.4 million, including money from the clients, at gaming tables and slots in Louisiana, Mississippi and Reno between April 2022 and March 2023. Andrea Miller spent nearly $110,000 at gaming tables and slots between April and December 2023, according to court records.

“The defendant admitted to receiving money from the complainants and never completing the work or returning the money to the complainants,” a prosecutor said during probable cause court.

Aleck Miller is charged with two counts of aggregate theft and one count of theft from an elderly person. His total bond was set at $75,000.

Andrea Miller is charged with one count of aggregate theft.

According to prosecutors, Aleck Miller also has a 1999 felony theft conviction in Harris County.
