Arrest made after pizza delivery driver robbed near Montrose area

Another pizza delivery driver was robbed on Saturday near River Oaks. It's unclear if the same thieves committed both robberies.

HOUSTON — One person was arrested Tuesday after being accused of robbing a pizza delivery driver near the Montrose area.

Investigators said the robber called a Domino's Pizza and asked for an order to be delivered to a home on Vassar Street near the Southwest Freeway, but nobody lived there.

When the pizza delivery driver showed up, he was met by the robber who allegedly stole his phone and car.

The pizza delivery driver was able to make it back to work which is where he called the police.

The suspect was eventually caught after a police chase. He was driving the car he had stolen from the pizza delivery driver.

A similar incident happened on Saturday, April 13 in a subdivision near River Oaks. A Papa Johns' delivery driver was beaten and robbed at gunpoint, then had his car stolen, police said.

Investigators said in the case on Saturday, the robbers called in a pizza order and requested it to be delivered to a home where they were waiting nearby.

Surveillance video from the home where the robbers sent the delivery driver caught two men walking up on the driver from both sides of his car. Then, without warning, the driver was sucker punched, held at gunpoint and robbed. In less than a minute, the suspects stole the driver’s money, car and pizza.

“I was horrified when I saw the video of what had happened,” Michael Olsen said.

Olsen lived at the home where the robbers requested the pizza to be delivered.

Police said it's too early to determine if these robberies involved the same suspect.
