HOUSTON — Houston police have released surveillance footage of a suspect vehicle and person of interest in a shooting that left a child injured in southwest Houston.

It happened Sunday, April 14 just before 3 p.m. on Corporate Drive near the Westpark Tollway.

Police said they were called to a shooting involving two vehicles. A 7-year-old boy who was standing on the sidewalk nearby was shot once in the lower back.

The child was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Police said the suspect vehicle is a gray Toyota Avalon with damage to the front left side and back passenger side.

The suspect is described as a man with dreadlocks. Police said he was shooting at a person in a blue truck when at least one bullet hit the child. The suspect then left the scene.

A person of interest is a woman who investigators believe may know the identity of the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to contact HPD's major assaults unit at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

A woman spoke to KHOU 11 News and claimed she saw the shooting.

"The vehicle made a turn, then the other vehicle started shooting, it was six gunshots. He attempted to shoot at the vehicle’s window but the gunshots started going everywhere," she said in Spanish.

She said she'll never forget what she witnessed.

"Then the child that was near me started to cry. His mother looked at him and then realized he had been shot," she said.
