HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 58-year-old woman was arrested and charged with murder about a week after her mother's death.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said D’Juana Valien-Nwaokocha was taken into custody on Wednesday. She was booked into the Harris County Jail.
Valien-Nwaokocha's mother, 81-year-old Samarie Bellows, was found dead inside her northwest-side senior living community last Thursday night. She had been shot to death.

A day after the discovery was made, authorities returned to the scene to gather more evidence. Family members of Bellows were there but didn't want to talk about what happened.
Other residents at the Palisades of Inwood on West Mount Houston Road near Antoine Drive said the shooting raised concerns. Some even said they were looking to move out.
The complex declined to comment.
