The Prayers for Shane Facebook group is where supporters found updates about the family.

He may have lived for only four hours, but Shane Michael Haley captured the hearts of family, friends and social media supporters who followed his "Bucket List" baby story.

"Today at 6:15 a.m., after meeting his entire family and being baptized into the Catholic faith, baby Shane died peacefully in his Mother's arms. We are so grateful for the time that we were blessed to hold and hug our son," a manager for the online Facebook community, Prayers for Shane, posted Thursday.

Parents Jenna Gassew and Dan Haley of Delco, Pa., had expected their son's death — during the pregnancy, he was diagnosed with anencephaly, a rare and terminal birth defect — and gained fame online with "Shane's Bucket List."

While he was still in the womb, Shane's parents took him to some of their favorite childhood places, from New York City to sports games, concerts and classic Philadelphia landmarks such as Geno's Steaks. They completed their list on Sept. 6.

The Facebook group has 722,736 likes, and followers found a vibrant community on Twitter through #shanesbucketlist.

The post continues: "The support and prayers we have received from all of you have been amazing and we want to thank each of you with all our hearts. Shane spent his entire life in the arms of people that loved him unconditionally and I don't think you could ask for a more beautiful life then that."
