HOUSTON — UPDATE: A Harris County Precinct 5 deputy working security at a burger chain and injured in a shootout with a robbery suspect in northwest Houston Wednesday night is recovering and in good spirits, Constable Ted Heap said in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon.
Houston police said the suspect robbed both the restaurant and the customers inside. He then noticed the deputy, who was standing outside the restaurant, and fired several shots towards him. One bullet hit the deputy in the arm.
"He faces a long road to recovery ahead and further medical procedures, but feels blessed to have escaped more serious injury," Heap said.
Heap praised the deputy:
“This deputy is a dedicated, hard-working and well-respected member of our Precinct 5 family. He showed bravery and courage in trying to stop this robbery without anyone getting hurt. We are all thankful that he is going to be all right."
Heap followed up with this information about the search for the suspect:
"The Houston Police Department is handling the investigation and the search for the suspect, described as a black male 6-foot-3 inches tall, wearing a green and white sweatsuit and possibly driving a white Dodge Charger with black rims."

This happened at a Five Guys in the 2800 block of North Shepherd.
Houston police said the suspect robbed both the restaurant and the customers inside. He then noticed the deputy, who was standing outside the restaurant, and fired several shots towards him. One bullet hit the deputy in the arm.
A Good Samaritan helped administer first aid to the deputy until paramedics arrived. The deputy was alert and talking when he was taken to the hospital.
The deputy is a 15-year law enforcement veteran. He has been with Precinct 5 for 12 of those years.
The suspect is still at large.
Police described him as a black man wearing a green and white sports sweatsuit. He had on a black mask during the time of the robbery. Police said is about 6 feet 3 inches tall. He was possibly driving a white Charger with black rims.
