James Harden joining ownership group of Dynamo and Dash

Harden would join majority owner Gabriel Brener and boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya.

HOUSTON — James Harden has joined the ownership group of the Houston Dynamo, Houston DASH and BBVA Stadium, the Rockets star confirmed Tuesday along with the Houston Dynamo.

Harden said he has been a fan of soccer for several years and the decision to become an owner of the Dynamo-Dash was easy.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to join the ownership group of the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash and proud to be a part of a club with tremendous history and a great future,” Harden said. “Houston is my home now, and I saw this as a way to invest in my city and expand my business interests at the same time."

Currently, the Dynamo and Dash are owned by an ownership group consisting of majority owner Gabriel Brener, of Brener International Group; boxing legend and promoter Oscar De La Hoya; Ben Guill, managing partner of White Deer Energy, and Jake Silverstein, a private investor based in Portland, Ore.

Harden has been in Houston since joining the Rockets in 2012. The 2018 NBA MVP agreed to the biggest contract extension in NBA history in 2017.

His deal with Adidas is also worth a total of $200 million.

The Dynamo are in eighth place in the Western Conference with an 8-3-9 record. The Dash are in seventh place with a 3-4-5 record.
