HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Local officials are telling Houstonians to go ahead and call it a night. They say this is not the night to play around.
Officials are at Houston Transtar monitoring the storm and deploying emergency resources throughout the city.
The officials are giving some serious words of warning tonight. They’re asking everyone to get home as quickly as they can tonight and stay inside.
Officials are expecting street flooding and bayous filled with water beginning tonight through Saturday night.
They’re telling residents to stay off the streets and roadways for their own safety and also so that water can move freely to the bayous and out of the city.
Local officials are telling the public if you’re able to leave work early, go ahead and do it.
But whenever you get off – go home, and stay at home.
"When work is out – and you finish at five – Thursday, happy hour? This might be a good day to have happy hour at your home.” said Mayor Sylvester Turner.
Officials are advising the public not to attempt to drive through high water and never bypass barricades.
The mayor even suggested fans going to tonight’s Astros game to think twice if they do not live close to minute maid park.
I covered hurricane harvey and this is the first time i’ve seen local officials deliver such a stern and serious message to the public while anticipating the storm.
Transtar will stay open for the remainder of this weather event.
