Man sentenced to 25 years for 2016 chase that killed Bellaire officer

BELLAIRE, Texas — The man convicted of murder in a 2016 chase that left a Bellaire Police officer dead was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison. 

Dante Moore was convicted of murder after leading Bellaire Police officer Marco Zarate on a chase that ended in a motorcycle crash. Zarate was killed in the July 2016 crash in the 8500 block of Ferris.

Before the chase, Zarate's body cam snapped a photo of Moore, whom he had stopped to question about a shoplifting case at the Target in Meyerland Plaza. Police said Moore took off at speeds up to 80 mph and Zarate went after him. That's when Zarate lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a parked landscaping truck.

Zarate was survived by a wife and three daughters and had been with Bellaire PD for seven years.
