Man shoved onto DART tracks: Suspect 'has to pay for what he did to me'

Juan Diaz thought he was going to die the day he says he was hit and pushed onto the tracks of a moving DART train.

DALLAS — Juan Diaz is overwhelmed with pain as he lays in a hospital bed at Methodist Hospital in Dallas.

Just seven days ago, he sayid he was on the Morrell Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) platform in Oak Cliff when a man hit him and pushed him onto the tracks and under the train.

"I forgive him, but he has to pay for what he did to me," Diaz said.

Anthony Davis, 27, faces an aggravated assault charge.

The suspect talked with WFAA early Monday

"I hit him," he admitted. "I made sure I did what I did."

Davis said he was high and drunk at the time of the incident.

"It caused me to have that rage," he said.

A spokesperson for DART told WFAA that there are cameras on the platform but they weren't working at the time.

"The train was already moving," Diaz recalled of the moment he was pushed. "And then I hit the train, and the train sucked me in."

Diaz has two broken legs, injured ribs and a swollen eye. But, he said, he's fortunate. He said if not for God, he would be dead.

"I remember I was praying, and this coldness came from my head through my my body," Diaz said.

Diaz said he remembers being under the train vividly because it plays out in nightmares.

Meanwhile, the suspect said he doesn't regret his actions. Davis claims he was protecting a DART employee in an unrelated argument that took place moments earlier. But Diaz claims he was the one protecting that same employee.

DART is still trying to work out what happened.

On Tuesday, Diaz will undego a second surgery.
