HUMBLE, Texas - A teen was critically injured Tuesday after accidentally shooting herself while playing with a gun alongside two other teens in Humble.
Harris County Pct. 4 constable deputies responded to the scene Tuesday afternoon in the 4000 block of Wintergreen Drive.
Officials initially said a juvenile drove by and shot the teen. However, witnesses later told deputies the 17-year-old accidentally shot herself in the leg.
Witnesses said the teen was with another 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy who took an AK-47 from his home. Authorities said the teen put the gun down her pants and accidentally shot herself in the leg.
The teen was transported to Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital where she remains in critical condition.
Officials said the gun was found in a storm drain.
The 16-year-old was detained for questioning. Deputies will present the case to the District Attorney's Office for possible charges against him and his parents.
