Fire crews from Houston area to join fight against California wildfires

A group of specially trained New Waverly firefighters will head out Monday. They along with several other local firefighters from the Houston area will be meeting up at the Buc-ees in Katy and heading for the West Coast together.

KATY, Texas – Texas firefighters will join others from around the country in battling California’s most destructive wildfire in the state.

A group of specially trained New Waverly firefighters will head out Monday. They along with several other local firefighters from the Houston area will be meeting up at the Buc-ees in Katy and heading for the West Coast together.

Wildfires continue to rage on both ends of the state with the death toll now at 31.

Relatives desperately searching for their loved ones as hundreds have gone missing and are unaccounted for.

So far more than 8,000 firefighters have been battling what’s being called California’s most destructive wildfire. And more help is desperately needed.

Some of that help will be coming from Texas as crews here in our area plus dozens more throughout the state make their way to California.

At this point, they plan on staying for two weeks and rotating out crews as needed.
