AUSTIN, Texas - The water in Lake Travis is still rising, but on Friday, residents nearby received a bit of good news: The lake level will likely crest on Saturday as much as four feet lower than expected, according to the Lower Colorado River Authority.
At a marina near Lakeway, Texas there has been a struggle to keep as many as 400 boats from floating away.
The manager of the marina said he's been flooded with phone calls from frantic boat owners worried what would happen to their boats.
It’s absolutely understandable when you see the dock floating in the middle of the street when it’s supposed to be 600 yards in the opposite direction.
“I've never seen it this bad." said Kirk Demusiak. "This is amazingly terrible. What a mess."
On Friday, only the roof of the marina's popular restaurant was visible above the water.
The marina's manager says while it looks really bad, it's been worse before.
“Our marine office floats up on a platform. I actually turned my computer on this morning and have been working out there." he said.
More than 11 million gallons of water are flowing out of the lake every minute, but the water is still rising.
The kitchen for the restaurant was built on a trailer and when staff realized the water was going to flood the place, the costly equipment was simply hauled off.
The manager remembered the flood back in 1991 and said back then, it took two months for the water to get back to normal.
