2 killed after kayak overturns near Pirates Beach in Galveston

Galveston Island Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis said Raul Olvera and Alan Perez Perreira were kayaking on the beach near Highway 3005 when their boat turned over.

GALVESTON, Texas – Two men are dead after their kayak overturned near Pirates Beach in Galveston.

This happened Saturday just before 6 p.m.

Galveston Island Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis said Raul Olvera and Alan Perez Perreira were kayaking on the beach near Highway 3005 when their boat turned over.

Olvera was submerged underwater for about 10 minutes until he was rescued by bystanders, according to Davis. The Good Samaritans administered CPR until first responders arrived on scene. First responders took Olvera to a nearby hospital where he died.

Perreira's body recovered later in the day.

Olvera and Perreira are both from Houston and had been living at Olvera’s brother’s house in Galveston for a month.
