HPD: Fuel thieves caught filling hidden tanks using stolen credit card numbers

Police say two men were caught stealing more than a thousand gallons of fuel using stolen credit card numbers at a southeast Houston gas station.

HOUSTON – Undercover officers caught alleged fuel thieves in the act late Monday, police in southeast Houston say.

Around 11:15 p.m. officers responded to a station on E. Orem west of Telephone Road where a possible fuel theft was taking place. Officers say they saw two men filling three separate tanks, including two hidden in the back of a large truck.

The men were allegedly using stolen credit card numbers that were programed onto other stolen cards, including gift cards.

Police say the men had filled more than a thousand gallons of diesel fuel and may have been involved in similar fuel thefts from over the weekend.

The suspects were taken into custody at the scene. Names and charges have not yet been released.

Police say the station where they were caught had been hit more than others.
