Sheriff's Office: Man claiming to work for CPS threatens to kill Liberty Co. homeowner, take kids

A homeowner told Liberty County deputies a stranger entered his home without permission, stating he worked for CPS and was going to take away the children who lived there, the sheriff's office said.
Jimmy Dwayne Lackey, 36, is charged with burglary of a habitation, resisting arrest and impersonating a public servant after Liberty County deputies say he charged into a home claiming to work for CPS and threatening harm to residents.

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – A man pretending to work for Child Protective Services threatened to kill a homeowner and forcibly remove three children from the home, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office said.

It happened over the weekend on County Road 3251. Deputies were dispatched to a home Saturday around 1:45 p.m. about a disturbance with shots fired, according to the sheriff's office.

A homeowner told them a stranger entered his home without permission, stating he worked for CPS and was going to take away the children who lived there, the sheriff's office said.

The homeowner retreated to a bedroom with the children as the stranger charged after them, yelling, according to the sheriff's office. The stranger, according to deputies, told the homeowner he was going to take the kids and kill the homeowner.

Deputies said the homeowner fired four rounds into the ground and took the children to a home across the street to phone authorities.

Walking down the road they spotted 36-year-old Jimmy Dwayne Lackey, who the homeowner identified as the home invader.

There was a brief chase and deputies said Lackey "resisted every attempt" they made to arrest him. Lackey was eventually forced to the ground and arrested, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies said Lackey was in possession of two clear baggies that appeared to contain methamphetamine.

He was taken to the Liberty County Jail and charged with burglary of a habitation; resisting arrest; and impersonating a public servant. The burglary charge is a first degree felony.
