'Gator Woods' roaming Pearland neighborhood

A giant gator was captured on video heading back into a creek near Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland. The man who shot the video says it's the biggest alligator he's ever seen.

Pearland — PEARLAND – It’s a staredown with a living dinosaur one young Pearland man won’t ever forget.

Bradley Durrett came face-to-face with a massive alligator early Sunday morning.

He captured the moment on cellphone video as the monster gator headed back into a swollen creek in the Green Tee Terrace neighborhood.

Durrett calls the encounter the craziest thing he’s seen around the Golfcrest Country Club area.

He was headed home down the street over the weekend when he ran into this giant gator.

Durrett described the gator’s initial position as being halfway in the street.

“I thought honestly a tree had fell over but I’ve lived here my whole life. I was like 'it’s not a tree,'” Durrett said. “I was by myself so I wasn’t trying to get close to it for sure but I definitely wanted to get a video of it so everybody could see it. I didn’t think anybody would believe me if I just told them. That’s how big it was.”

Durrett used his pickup to gauge how big of a gator it really was.

He said, “It’s the only thing I could compare it to. It was bigger than anything else out that was out here so I just judged the size to my truck and it was about the same.”

Those who live in the area like Jordan Fetgatter said they’re now more careful about going near the creek.

Fetgatter said, “We bring our dog out here to play almost every day, walk him around, throw the ball with him down by the creek so definitely won’t be throwing the ball in the creek anytime soon knowing that alligator is still out there.

While the enormous alligator is still out there Durrett hopes to have at least one more run in with it.

“If I run into that gator again I’m definitely getting closer and I’m definitely getting way better video,” Durrett exclaimed.

This isn’t the first time a big gator has been spotted in the area.

Another gator was spotted in the flooded waters after Harvey.

As for this one, Durrett has named it “Gator Woods” since it was found near a golf course after all.
