18-year-old accused of fatally shooting man who was on his way to work

The victim, Ramone Alviso Esquivel, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HOUSTON – Police say an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of another man in southwest Houston.

The crime happened the morning of April 3 at 8404 South Course as the victim prepared to go to work.

His mugshot has not been released as the investigation continues, but his arrest comes after police released a sketch and surveillance video in the case.

The victim, Ramone Alviso Esquivel, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Esquivel was in the parking lot of his apartment complex when he was allegedly confronted by the suspect, who attempted to forcibly take his personal property, according to police. When Esquivel resisted, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him.

The suspect then fled the scene.

He later turned himself in to police and confessed to the shooting. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
