Fire contained at TPC Group plant in SE Houston

Police have shut down the westbound lanes of Highway 225 near the plant located at 8600 Park Place Boulevard.

HOUSTON — Firefighters have contained the flames and black smoke coming from a TPC plant in southeast Houston.

Police shut down the westbound lanes of Highway 225 near the plant located at 8600 Park Place Boulevard.

Video from Air 11 showed flames and thick, black smoke coming from the plant.

A spokesperson for TPC Group Houston Operations says there were no explosions, and emergency crews who responded have contained the blaze that started just before 6 p.m. Friday.

TPC Group officials say an alarm sounded to a fire in the plant's operating unit, and the emergency response team responded immediately. They say the fire was in a portable storage tank that contained a mixture of primarily water and hydrocarbons, which is a petroleum product.

"All employees are accounted for and there have been no injuries," TPC Group said in a statement. "Our team has been conducting air monitoring at the fence line and surrounding area. At this time there is no need for the community to take action and we will continue to conduct air monitoring."
