Police: Baytown man shot Chihuahua to protect his chickens

William Elizondo (BPD)

BAYTOWN — A Baytown woman told police her pet Chihuahua was shot by a neighbor armed with a .22 caliber air rifle.

The woman said her little dog was on her property Monday when the man shot it.

William Elizondo, 26, later admitted he shot the Chihuahua because he was worried about his chickens, according to Baytown police.

Police said Elizondo told them the dog had never tried to hurt his chickens or even gotten onto his property before, so it’s not clear why he was worried.

Elizondo was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. He was also wanted for an outstanding warrant for a DWI in Harris County.

The dog is being treated for a wound to its chest but is expected to survive.
