9-month-old in serious condition after shooting in E. Harris Co. parking lot

A 9-month-old baby was shot and taken to the hospital after a shooting in east Harris County Sunday evening, according to authorities.

A 9-month-old baby remains in serious condtion after she was shot during an alleged robbery attempt in east Harris County.

All while Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigators continue to search for the robbers on the run.

The shooting happened Sunday night near Freeport and Alderson Street, right outside the City Barber Shop parking lot.

Investigators say they are reviewing surveillance footage of the shooting that was caught on the building’s outside cameras, hoping to piece things together.

They believe this could be drug related.

Meanwhile, the 9-month-old baby girl, who was shot in the arm, went in for surgery overnight and is in the neonatal intensive care unit at Texas Children's Hospital.

She is expected to be OK.

Deputies say the baby and her mom were just innocent bystanders when the bullets went flying.

They say overnight, a man claimed three men tried to rob him, and when he fought back, that’s when he says one of the suspects began shooting.

Those bullets hit that man and baby girl who was in a car with her mom nearby.

In the chaos, that mom ended up taking the baby down the street to a convenience store parking lot, asking folks to call 911.

The other victim drove himself to a nearby IHOP, where he flagged down police.

He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects took off in a black Chevy Silverado.

The search for them is now on.

“Any time a 9-month-old gets shot, it’s very troubling,” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “We want to make sure that we catch these crooks as soon as possible, because obviously they’re armed and dangerous.”
