HCSO: Speeding driver caused crash that killed woman

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said they have evidence that the driver of the Chevrolet Impala was speeding and driving without his headlights. Charges may be filed at a later date.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A woman is dead after an alleged speeding driver struck the vehicle she was riding in Friday night in northwest Harris County, according to deputies.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the accident happened around 10 p.m. in the 11900 block of Veterans Memorial Drive and Kelly Lane.

Deputies said a Chevrolet Impala was speeding southbound on Veterans Memorial Drive and Kelly Lane. A Geo Prizm, with a male driver and female passenger was traveling northbound on the same street.

The Geo Prizm made a left turn on Kelly Lane and the driver of the Chevy Impala struck the Geo Prizm passenger door.

The female passenger in the Geo Prizm was pronounced dead on scene, according to deputies.

The male driver was taken to Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital in critical condition. He has already been through two surgeries.

The driver of the Chevy Impala suffered minor injuries. He did remain on scene after the accident and has been cooperating with authorities.

Deputies say they have evidence that the Chevy Impala was speeding and driving without his headlights. He was tested for intoxication and the results came back negative.

There is a possibility charges may be filed at a later date, according to authorities.
