Cedar Park police urge residents to stay vigilant following Austin bombings

Cedar Park police responded to 58 package calls from March 12th to Wednesday morning. Round Rock responded to 44 from March 12-19.

Interim Police Chief Brian Manley asked Austin and neighboring cities like Cedar Park and Round Rock to remain vigilant.

Cedar Park police said at this point there have been no suspicious packages nor explosives found.

Police Chief Sean Mannix said his department, like many in the area, have been assisting the FBI and Austin PD to investigate the bombings.

But, because this is APD's case -- he said he cannot give investigative details.

However, Mannix asked residents to always be aware of their surroundings and if you see something suspicious, say something.

"If suspicious activity is occurring around you, dial 911,” said Mannix. “If anything shows up at your house that you're not expecting, again, call 911. Let us know, and we'll check it out."

Mannix said he encourages the community to be the eyes and ears for the police department at all times, not just during this time of heightened vigilance.

"If something feels out of place, appears to be suspicious, don't just write it off as nothing,” Mannix said. “In this case, packages are involved. Take a look at labeling, if something is over-taped, odd shaped, did I order anything in the last several days?”
