AISD takes precautions after fourth explosion, community on heightened alert

Local schools are on high alert with the recent bombings. Here's what schools and communities are doing about it.

Local schools are on high alert with the recent bomb explosions in Austin, and are taking precautions to ensure the safety of their students and communities.

And Austin neighborhoods aren't sitting quietly either.

In northwest Austin, people told KVUE they're worried and are taking extra precautions but are not changing their lifestyles.

In North Austin, neighbors say they're afraid and wouldn't go on camera.

Downtown, the President of the Old Austin Neighborhood Association says he plans to notify his members on social media about being extra careful.

"All these bombings generate a level of insecurity in our neighborhood and I expect all over Austin, and unfortunately we have to be, as citizens and residents, just very careful," said Ted Siff.

Siff has lived in Austin since the 1970s and has never seen this level of concern in the entire city.

In the North Austin neighborhood of Allandale, its neighborhood association safety officer sent out an email to all their block captains alerting neighbors to be on the lookout of anything suspicious, such as out-of-place backpacks, suitcases and fishing wires.

And if they see something, they should call 9-1-1.

Those block captains are in charge of getting the word out to people who may not have email accounts, like the elderly.

David Grover has lived in the Allandale area for three decades.

"Number four I wouldn't have expected. I was surprised when there were three, the fourth one kind of brings my level up quite a bit," he said.
