A woman may be responsible for running over and a killing a man who was sleep outside a boarded-up car wash in southeast Houston on Monday, police say.
The Houston Police Department said Maria Guadalupe Bravo-Nieto, 40, is currently charged with failure to stop and give information.
Initially police thought Bravo-Nieto got into a minor crash at the car wash around 1:30 a.m. in the 7000 block of Gulf Freeway. Police said she struck a pole while trying to back out of the outside car wash lane and then ran away.
Police were able to identify Bravo-Nieto as the driver. They located her and took her into custody around 4:30 a.m.
Hours later police said they were flagged down by a citizen who stated there was a deceased male outside the car wash building.
Investigators believe Bravo-Nieto had drove through the outside car wash lane and hit the boarded-up entrance to the car wash building. Police said the victim was sleeping in a tent in front of the building and Bravo-Nieto ran over him. She then tried to back out of the car wash, struck a pole and then fled on foot, according to investigators.
Police are still investigating this incident.
