Teenager rescued after falling 20 feet while climbing at Barton Creek Greenbelt

AUSTIN -- A teenager suffered serious injuries after officials said he fell more than 20 feet while climbing at the Barton Creek Greenbelt on Sunday.

Austin-Travis County EMS said the Austin Fire Department and STAR Flight were all called to respond to the 3899 block of South Capital of Texas Highway northbound around 6:30 p.m. based on initial reports that a patient fell about 20 to 25 feet in the Greenbelt.

When rescuers made contact with the victim, ATCEMS said trauma alert was declared, STAR Flight was called off and he was extracted via ground rescue operators. He was taken to South Austin Medical Center with serious injuries that are not expected to be life threatening.
