A man has been charged with murder after causing a multi-vehicle accident that killed one person and injured five others on Sunday.

HOUSTON -- A man has been charged with murder after causing a multi-vehicle crash that killed one person and injured five others on Sunday.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened in the 8900 block of the E Sam Houston Parkway/Beltway 8 at West Road around 1 p.m.

Deputies say, Elmer Quintanilla, 26, lost control of his GMC Sierra pickup truck when he was attempting to exit the West Road Toll Plaza. He then crashed into another vehicle, which caused it to rollover and hit a large brick sign, killing the male driver inside.

Quintanilla then hit another vehicle driven by a woman who was pulling out of a church parking lot.

He also hit three other vehicles in the parking lot before finally coming to a stop. The woman was injured and was taken to the hospital in good condition.

Quintanilla's 25-year-old wife and their three children were riding with him at the time. They were all taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

The children's ages are 6 years old, 5 years old, and 13 months old.

Traffic investigators determined that Quintanilla was driving while intoxicated and had children under the age of 15 in the vehicle which is a felony.

Quintanilla is charged with murder because he caused the death of the male driver while in commission of another felony, deputies said.
