PEARLAND, Texas – Police found a gun in student’s bag at Pearland High School Friday morning, according to Pearland ISD.
According to the Pearland Police Department, officers received a Crime Stoppers tip regarding a handgun being brought to Pearland High School.
Pearland Police School Resource Officers made contact with a student who was believed to be in possession of a firearm.
Police said the 15-year-old student was located, and a firearm was found in his possession.
Police said at this time there is no threat to the school or students on campus. There are no reports of injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and additional details will be provided as they are made known.
Pearland ISD issued the following statement Friday:
On Friday morning, March 9, a Pearland High School CrimeStoppers tip led to a student found in possession of a firearm in a backpack. At no time was the firearm removed from the backpack.
Immediately, we began an investigation with assistance from the Pearland Police Department. A student has been taken into custody by Pearland Police, who also recovered the weapon. At this time there is no threat to the school or students on campus.
Pearland ISD student and staff safety is always our first priority. Because this is an ongoing police investigation, further information may be obtained from the Pearland Police Department.
