HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 19-year-old man is facing burglary charges after he allegedly stole from a home that is undergoing renovations after flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

James Seykora was arrested after deputies say he stole a 65-inch TV from a home in the 4400 block of Lost Spring in the Bear Creek neighborhood in west Harris County.

Contractors working in the neighborhood said they saw Seykora leave a home with an unopened TV box sticking out of his trunk and speed away. Those contractors contacted the homeowner, who alerted the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office.

Deputies arrested Seykora two hours later and charged him with burglary of a building.

Seykora had been helping clean up flood debris and renovating homes in the neighborhood.

The constable’s office reminds homeowners to:

  • Check before and after contractors are working at your home to make sure windows and doors are locked
  • Consider investing in a good home security & surveillance system
  • Make sure the exterior of your home is well-lit at night
  • Record serial numbers and take pictures of any valuable items remaining in your home
  • Get names, phone numbers and license plates for any contractors and subcontractors
  • Ask neighbors to keep a close eye on your home while it is vacant
