911 call about deputy shot likely a prank, officials say

Officials say they now believe the 911 call was part of a 'swatting' prank, which could lead to felony charges for whoever placed it.

HOUSTON – Someone called 911 late Wednesday reporting a deputy had been shot in north Harris County, however, a wounded deputy was never located.

Officials say they now believe the 911 call was part of a ‘swatting’ prank, which could lead to felony charges for whoever placed it.

Sources say the 911 caller reported a deputy was wounded and was laying in a parking lot at an apartment complex along Ella Boulevard. When paramedics and other deputies arrived, however, a wounded deputy was not located.

Dispatchers did a roll call for all officers and deputies working the area to make sure everyone was okay. They also checked all nearby apartment complexes.

Authorities detained one person for questioning, but that person was let go.

Anyone who has information about the crime should call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000.
