Chase suspect killed in fiery crash in northeast Houston

The suspect came to a slight curve in the road and stuck the barrier of a bridge over a bayou. The vehicle flew into the bayou and burst into flames.

HOUSTON – Houston police say a man who led officers on a chase overnight died in a fiery crash into Halls Bayou.

According to the Houston Police Department, it was about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when an officer saw a driver speeding on Parker near Hardy. The officer tried to stop the suspect, but the driver allegedly ran red lights and stop signs and continued eastbound on Parker.

Eventually the suspect came to a slight curve in the road and stuck the barrier of a bridge over the bayou. The vehicle flew into the bayou and burst into flames.

Officers say they initially went down to try and save the man, but the flames were too intense. The driver died at the scene.

Family members at the scene told KHOU 11 the suspect was 33 years old and just minutes from his home. The man was said to be on the phone with his girlfriend during the chase, and he told her he just doesn't stop for police.

HPD continues to investigate the chase and crash.
