Harris County MS-13 gang members arrested in Austin on murder attempt charges

The 17 and 23-year-old El Salvador natives are accused of attempting to commit murder of another MS-13 gang member.

AUSTIN, Texas - Two documented MS-13 gang members were arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force last week in Austin, the U.S. Marshals Service said Monday.

The two men, 17-year-old Bryan Funez and 23-year-old Jorge Alexander Cortez, were wanted on a Harris County felony charge of attempt to commit murder filed on Feb. 15.

Funez was arrested on Feb. 21 at the 2700 block of East Seventh Street without incident and remanded to the Travis County Jail awaiting extradition, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Officials said Cortez was located the next day at a construction site at 625 FM 685 in Hutto and was transported to the Williamson County Jail without incident. He also awaits extradition.

The U.S. Marshals Service reported that the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force in Houston requested aid to locate the men pursuant to charges filed to commit murder of a fellow MS-13 member.

According to ICE, Funez and Cortez are citizens of El Salvador and are in the U.S. illegally.
