Deputies seize 165 roosters from cockfighting operation in Brazoria County

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office received a tip Sunday about the operation in unincorporated Pearland

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50 people Sunday on charges for their alleged involvements in a cockfighting operation.

The arrests came after the sheriff’s office received a tip around 2 p.m. about a possible rooster fighting in the 17700 block of Wells Drive in unincorporated Pearland.

Once on scene, deputies found “a very large scale, elaborate, cockfighting operation,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

With the help of the Brazoria County Animal Control Division, deputies seized 165 roosters. Another 30-50 dead birds were found on the property, believed to have died during fights.

Three of the people arrested are facing felony charges of cockfighting, while the remaining 47 are facing misdemeanor charges.
