HPD: Security guard shot suspect in parking lot of nightclub

An armed security guard shot a man after he was allegedly firing shots into the club, according to HPD. Police say the guard was acting in self defense and in defense of the club's patrons.

HOUSTON - A man was shot and killed by a security guard at a nightclub overnight, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD received a call shortly after 3 a.m. in regards to a reported shooting at a club in the 5600 block of North Shepherd.

An armed security guard shot a man after he was allegedly firing shots into the club from outside, according to HPD. Police say the guard was acting in self defense and in defense of the club's patrons.

After reviewing security camera footage, police say it appears the suspect was in some sort of verbal altercation with another person outside of the club before the shooting. It does not appear that anyone else was injured during the incident.

Police are asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
