Edgewood ISD superintendent accused of sexual harassment, placed on leave

Superintendent Dr. Emilio Castro of Edgewood ISD was placed on administrative leave after accusations of sexual harassment became public.

“Running his hand down an employee’s shin, and across the back of her lower neck.”

Those are some of the allegations made against Dr. Emilio Castro, the superintendent of Edgewood ISD.

The employee, who works for the school district's human resources department, made the claims to the San Antonio Police Department last Friday.

According to the police report, one of the incidents happened in the employee's office. Another details him taking her hand without letting go.

On Friday night, the district's board of managers decided to hire a third party to investigate the claims and placed Castro on paid administrative leave indefinitely.

State Senator Jose Menendez was at the board meeting Friday.

“This type of behavior is not acceptable or condonable,” said State Senator Jose Menendez, who was at the board meeting on Friday.

Sen. Menendez says that he got his start at Edgewood ISD and wanted to make sure the right decisions were made within his district.

“I want us to get to the stage where we don't have to have this, where people don't feel like they are being preyed upon by someone in a supervisor position,” he said. “We've got to have a respectful work environment for everyone.”

Board managers named the district's chief academic officer, Phillip Chavez, as Castro's interim replacement.
