Meeting Abby Elinsky for the first time, you come to find out it’s also her first time at Houston’s soccer stadium.
And truth be told, she's also amazed by her sudden fame overseas. "I was on your Instagram page," said KHOU sports anchor Jason Bristol. "You have some soccer pictures on there."
"Yes," Elinsky said with a laugh.
It all started in January when a tabloid in the United Kingdom published an article with the title, 'Meet Abby Elinsky…the stunning footballer who has a crush on Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos." It also claims Abby has "has got her sights set' on the superstar Ramos.
"Its crazy," she said. "I posted a picture of Sergio Ramos, probably when i was in 9th grade or something."
Imagine her surprise then, when she started gaining new followers. Lots of new followers, a majority from Spain.
"It took me off guard," she admits.
Also following Elinsky? The Houston Dash, which drafted her 30th overall from North Carolina, based on a recommendation from her college coach. Elinsky, of Rocky River, Ohio, is best known for her defense and determination.
"I said, 'We need a player who can really put pressure on an opponent in the midfield," said Dash coach Vera Pauw. "He said, "I got your player, Abby Elinsky.'"
Is fitness modeling something she'd be interested in doing? She says she'd consider it.
But setting her sights on Sergio Ramos? Its more like setting her sights on helping the Dash win a league championship.
After meeting Abby Elinsky, you learn that followers and photos are cool, but football is her sole focus.
"Always soccer first," she said.
