Weather Blog: Rodeo brings rollercoaster weather

It seems like rodeo time brings all sorts of change in the weather. Too hot, too cold, too sunny, too rainy... we usually get a little bit of everything during rodeo season.

It feels like the last week of February always bring out the rollercoaster weather that Houston can produce. So to put some factual numbers behind this "feeling" I did a little digging. Looking up the past four years for the last week of February (which you know leads in to rodeo season).

Years 2016 and 2017 for the last week of February we saw temperatures between 40 degrees with our morning lows and temperatures building to the 80s in the afternoon. Rain varied from dry to over an inch.

Get this... in 2015 temperatures had an extreme swing. With lows dropping in the 30s to highs a few days later building to the 80s. So even though the next week will feel a little out of sorts we actually should be used to this type of pattern. Maybe rodeo time does bring change to our weather. Some years you will have a coat and umbrella and others you may be sweating in shorts.

I know the weather won't keep us away from the rodeo! Houstonian's know how to brave everything when it comes to the cook off and rodeo!

This week will be no exception with the roller-coaster weather. Going from 40's Thursday right back to the 80's Friday. We should level out in more of a "spring-like" pattern next week. With a rain chance daily and temperatures staying in the 70's. Even though Spring doesn't officially begin until March 20. We are technically still in winter. So we have another month that we could bounce back and forth from feeling like winter to feeling like spring. The colds will continue. Even though I know the weather doesn't make people sick.. it just seems like when the weather is all over the place everyone seems sick.

Rainfall totals today will be a lot less compared to yesterday! We should pick up any where from 1-4 tenths of an inch of rain today! But you know this time of the year... conditions can change... all the time!
