MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -The Montgomery County Public Health District is offering free flu vaccines while supplies last.

Montgomery County officials confirmed three people have died from the flu this season: a man in his 70s, and two county jail inmates. Their ages and genders were not released by officials.

Overall, 10 people have died after being diagnosed with the flu in Houston and surrounding counties this season. Two women in their 60s died after they were diagnosed in Houston. Three more people died in Harris County: a woman in her 70s, a man in his 50s, and a woman in her 40s.

In Galveston County, a 61-year-old woman and a 48-year-old woman died as of Wednesday.

Health officials are now reporting fewer numbers in emergency rooms, but they say flu season is not even close to being over, and people who need to be the most cautious are the ones with pre-existing conditions.

Montgomery County officials say getting an annual flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect yourself from the flu. In some cases, officials say the vaccine can prevent flu-related hospitalizations.

Health officials also recommend covering your cough and washing or sanitizing your hands to preventing spreading germs.
