Daisy Ridley turns down 'Star Wars' fan in the best way possible

Rejection is hard, especially when you put as much effort into the invitation as Star Wars stan Kevin Carlock did.

Carlock premiered this video on YouTube last month, rapping over a Swag Surfin' sample and expressly requesting The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley (Rey) as his date to Davidson College's spring formal: "So long story short, I think you’d love it here. Kylo Ren’s not invited, you’ve got nothing to fear. Daisy, you’re cooler than Leia and Padme before her. I’d give you more than quarter portions for your parts from star destroyers."

Despite his adorable attempt at (what is hopefully) a freestyle, Ridley is still a bit preoccupied shooting 2017's Star Wars: Episode VIII. And so, she let Carlock down easy, declining his invitation in the most Rey way possible.

"Thank you so much for that brilliant invite to your formal," Ridley said in a handwritten letter posted to Instagram. "Unfortunately I’m locked in an intense staring competition with Luke Skywalker, somewhere in the middle of the galaxy, so won’t be able to make it! Let me know how it goes!"

A loyal fan, Carlock quickly replied to Ridley with a note of his own.

"Ms. Ridley, thanks so much for your response. Father-daughter staring contests are epic, so I understand why you can’t make it," he wrote back in an allusion to the speculation surrounding her character's heritage. "Good luck with Episode VIII, and may The Formal be with you."
