Melissa McCarthy explains why she's not in the 'Gilmore Girls' revival

We can't wait to get this back.

When Netflix announced that it was reviving your favorite WB mother/daughter dramedy from the 2000s, aka Gilmore Girls, the world celebrated as one at the news. Well, that is, everyone in the world except Gilmore alum Melissa McCarthy.

At the time of the announcement the actress's name was notably missing from the list of returning cast members. And when asked about it by a fan on Twitter, McCarthy had this incredibly salty response:

But now the actress is clearing things up once and for all.

She explained to E! "I didn't actually get asked to do it. But I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was."

OK that actually makes a lot of sense. And just because she's not directly involved doesn't mean McCarthy isn't on Team Gilmore.

"I'm actually thrilled that it's happening," she added. "I loved that show, and I think the fans for that show are super loyal and great and I will watch every single one of them."

And just because we all want Lorelai and Sookie reunited, E! asked if she would consider coming back if the show were to last more than one season.

"I want to cook again. I want to put salt and then stir," she said, raising our heart rates in the process. "That was seven years of my life and it was really great. I was proud of that show."

We were, sniff, proud of you, sniff sniff, too, girl. Sookie forever.
