James Corden's Carpool Karaoke gets primetime special

James Corden's Carpool Karaoke is expanding its commute.

The viral hit from CBS' The Late Late Show gets its own primetime special, complete with a new Carpool Karaoke ride with Jennifer Lopez along with highlights from past segments.

A Carpool Karaoke series also is a possibility. Corden and producers have been talking to cable and SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) buyers about the possibility of a regular series, with Corden making appearances but not hosting. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news Wednesday.

The CBS primetime special (March 29, 10 p.m. ET/PT) also will feature highlights from Corden's first year hosting The Late Late Show (weeknights, 12:37 p.m. ET/PT).

“It’s been an incredible year,” Corden says in a statement accompanying the announcement of the speical. “I look forward to this hour on primetime to look at some of my favorite moments and share a couple of great new ones. I can’t wait!”

Popular Carpool Karaoke segments have featured Adele, Elton John, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey and members of One Direction.

In February, Spike TV, home of the popular Lip Sync Battle, announced its own karaoke-on-wheels special, Caraoke Showdown, with Craig Robinson (The Office). It will premiere this year.
