5 things to expect from Jimmy Kimmel as the Emmys host

He's baaaack!

Hold on to your mean tweets, guys, because Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the 2016 Emmy Awards.

The pick makes sense, considering the ceremony is set to air on Kimmel's own network, ABC, on Sept. 18. (When it was on Fox last year, Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg hosted, when it was on NBC the year before, Seth Meyers hosted, etc, etc). The last time Kimmel hosted television's biggest night was all the way back in 2012. So what can we expect from him in the brave new world of 2016? Here are five things you're sure to see from the host when he takes to the stage.

1. Political jokes

The last time Kimmel hosted the Emmys, back in the innocent year of 2012, he took a big section out of his opening monologue to make jokes about the upcoming presidential election. His material? Mitt Romney and the "40 Republicans" in Hollywood. Considering how much the late night host has had to say about the election this year so far (AND IT'S ONLY MARCH, PEOPLE) we think he'll have some material of some sort when September rolls around.

2. Making (gentle) fun of the stars

Kimmel is a tougher host than say, Jimmy Fallon (who loves everything and everyone more than life itself, apparently), but he's not Ricky Gervais. Expect him to poke fun at the celebrities assembled before him, but not be too mean. Take his gentle ribbing of Matthew McConaughey at the 2014 Emmys (where he was a presenter) as an example. How can McConaughey be mad that Kimmel was making fun of him for being too successful?

3. An installment of "Mean Tweets"

We've gotten special awards show installments of Kimmel's most famous segment (including this one from the Oscars the other week), so expect it to make an appearance in some way, shape or form at the September ceremony. Maybe a live rendition with some of the nominees?

4. An appearance from Guillermo

It just can't be a Kimmel night without his trusty sidekick. There needs to be room in the ceremony for some bit from the guy, who memorably interviewed all of last year's winners "back to back" (quite literally). As long as he's around and in a tux, something funny will happen.

5. A Matt Damon cameo (please?)

The famous rivals attempted to make up in Kimmel's special after the Oscars and it didn't go so well. So what better place to actually make up than a live stage watched by millions of people and all of Hollywood? It's time, kids, for you two to be friends again. Consider this a personal plea.
