The best of 'Downton Abbey' fashion
Downton Abbey fans are already mourning the end of the beloved series, which aired Sunday. And fashion fans are even more distraught because, seriously, where are we going to turn for some well-dressed period dramas? Sorry Reign, but no. Guess we'll wait for Outlander.
In the meantime, we looked at some of our favorite fashion moments from the series, starting with the last episode and a top pick from Laura Carmichael (a.k.a. Lady Edith).
“There’s a great dress in the final episode,” Carmichael told USA TODAY. “Our costume designers are very aware of where the dresses are going to be seen. ‘Match the wallpaper’ is the wrong phrase, but you sort of think about what it’s going to look like in these shots and pick out accent colors. It’s a beautifully shot scene and that dress felt very special.”
Carmichael also loved some of the original coast that Anna Mary Scott Robbins found. Though we're partial to the costumes of Lady Edith, editor in chief.
Of course that is just the beginning. Who can forget Lady Mary's riding style?
Which started in the beginning with proper top hat and riding coat.
And her relaxed sporting outfits.
Lady Grantham's hats in the early episodes were all of our Derby day dreams come true.
Though they can't top her mom's, worn by Shirley MacLaine.
The men weren't too shabby, either.
We almost forgot how much we missed Matthew.
Can we take a moment for the beading, the real star of this show?
And the headpieces.
Seriously, that detailing tho.
What about the haircut that defined a season?
Then there was the time an actual princess visited the set.
Though the winner in our (very) informal analysis is debutante Rose, because we can not get enough of those feather plumes.
RIP Downton, it was beautiful while it lasted.]
