Christian Bale wasn't entirely happy with his Batman performance
With Batman v Superman hitting theaters soon, Ben Affleck's Batfleck Batman is about to enter the pop culture lexicon. Which means it's the perfect time to re-examine the most recent entry: Christian Bale's deep-voiced, armored and Christopher Nolan-directed version.
Whatever you think about his performance, Bale himself is not totally satisfied. He told Yahoo:
“I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy. (Christopher Nolan) did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.’ ... Batman's this very, very, very dark, messed-up character," he explains. Bale wanted to use the suit "as a means of, It's his true monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment."
And Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning performance did not help Bale's sense about the whole thing:
"Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans, because I went, 'He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.’"
It's OK, Christian. No one can ever live up to our favorite Batman, anyways.
