Academy Awards 2016: Here's what you missed

Skipped the Oscars for The Walking Dead? Or fell asleep halfway through? It's OK -- we've got you.

Here's a quick look at the highlights.

The big awards went to (almost) all of the expected winners. Leonardo Dicaprio took home his just deserts and the Internet erupted in glee. Brie Larson was deserving and loveably genuine, thanking her adorable co-star Jacob Tremblay. And Spotlight took the top prize in a close race with The Revenant and The Big Short.

In an unexpected yet delightful twist, Mad Max won the most awards, sweeping the technical categories.

Biting jokes, jabs and monologues kept the #OscarsSoWhite discussion going all night. Chris Rock was unrelenting, comparing Hollywood's form of racism to a disapproving sorority, setting up a bit on Black History Month by Angela Bassett ironically dedicated to Jack Black, and bring Stacey Dash on stage in the most confusing moment of the evening.

Lady Gaga in one of the most striking images of the night.

Lady Gaga had arguably the most powerful performance of the night, with an equally compelling opening by Joe Biden, drawing attention to sexual assault and the White House's "It's On Us" campaign.

The red carpet was full of swoon-worthy gowns, naturally. The most noteworthy came in deep jewel-tones and vibrant oranges and reds.

So many happy tears.

And Kate and Leo reminded us all that we will never let go of Titanic, no matter how many completely unrelated and brilliant movies they are star in. Who is starting the petition for the reboot?
