Eddie Redmayne has many reasons to be grinning. The Danish Girl star, who is up for his second best-actor nomination at Sunday's Oscars, recently wrapped the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. That means (for the first time in a long time) he's on vacation! And so Redmayne hit the carpet on Friday night at the Film is GREAT bash, which celebrated British nominees of the Academy Awards at the Los Angeles hotspot, Fig & Olive.

Redmayne's wife, Hannah Bagshawe (who is expecting), walked with him on the red carpet. So, we asked Redmayne, how does this year's Oscars weekend differ from a year ago? (You'll recall Redmayne won the best actor Oscar in 2015 for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.)

"Do you know what?" he told us. "I think last year, when you go through this, it’s like being slightly bulldozed with adrenaline and excitement. I suppose having been through it once, I’m trying to relax this year and really take it all in – whereas last year there was so much adrenaline that it was tricky to kind of take anything in."

Oscars weekend begins.
